Your garbage becomes public property the minute you throw it away. By law garbage is considered abandoned material, which gives police the right to search through it without a warrant. This means anything you throw out is subject to a search at anytime. This includes any personal documents you want no one to see.
Be sure to destroy any readability of the document(s) before throwing away if you so not want anyone reading your information.
